I am working on building a fixture for mechanical testing with gantry/CNC type of control, and looking at the following actuator kits:

I had a few questions about them:

  • What model of stepper motor comes with the kits? Are there any speed/torque curves for these, or any max speed/min accuracy specs for the motion system as a whole?
  • Are the “V” and “H” type of kits the same as each other, just differing in the orientation of how the plates are mounted with respect to the v-slot? How should I think about choosing one orientation vs the other, e.g. is one more suitable for certain kinds of loads/motions/axis of motion?
  • Are there CAD files for the mounting frames for the stepper motors? (Everything else is more standard and I can find elsewhere online)
  • I am looking to get ~50cm long pieces, but was a little unsure how the order page for the “H” kit works — do we enter the length in cm as the qty? In that case, the price comes out to $8.50, which doesn’t seem realistic, given the “V” kit is $35 for the 0-50cm length. Is that expected?

Hi yaning,

Your questions make perfect sense. In fact our I.T. team has updated those products that include both customizable lengths and parts to improve the shopping experience. These changes have been schedule to be pushed online soon, so please check back in 1–2 days.

Thanks,

Frank

Hi,

Our new version of 'custom-length plus parts' products is online now.  Let me answer your questions first:

What model of stepper motor comes with the kits? Are there any speed/torque curves for these, or any max speed/min accuracy specs for the motion system as a whole?
A: We now use the Nema 17-48mm (0.45Nm) open-loop stepper motor by default; it has enough torque for most use cases.

Are the “V” and “H” type of kits the same as each other, just differing in the orientation of how the plates are mounted with respect to the v-slot? How should I think about choosing one orientation vs the other, e.g. is one more suitable for certain kinds of loads/motions/axis of motion?
A: Both models use V-Slot. We changed 'V' to represent Vertical (2040 in a vertical position) and 'H' to Horizontal (2040 in a horizontal position) to make the descriptions clearer. These two models use different mounting brackets and gantry plates, so please choose the one best suited for your project.

Are there CAD files for the mounting frames for the stepper motors? (Everything else is more standard and I can find elsewhere online)
A: For these kits, we provide a free CAD file for the Nema 17 stepper motor only. The download link will be automatically attached to your account once your order is delivered.

I am looking to get ~50cm long pieces, but was a little unsure how the order page for the “H” kit works — do we enter the length in cm as the qty? In that case, the price comes out to $8.50, which doesn’t seem realistic, given the “V” kit is $35 for the 0-50cm length. Is that expected?
A: Our 'custom-length plus parts' products have been newly designed for a better shopping experience: Dynamic pricing for custom-length materials + Flat pricing for other parts. Please see a sample below."

Within each product page, you can find the flat pricing for all KIT options, as well as downloadable files.

The 'Qty' input for these products represents the length in cm (2040 V-Slot profile length only; mounting bracket dimensions are not included). Once added to your shopping cart, you will see the V-Slot price and parts price separated.
