Router Sled Conversion to CNC Router Sled
Is the Nema 23 Closed Loop Stepper Motor Bundle - LC57H276 + LCDA257 compatible with the
4 Axis GRBL CNC Control Board - Board without Driver ?
Does the control board support Y1 and Y2 homing and squaring?
I’m using the MKS CNC board to drive my CL motors: https://diycnc.ca/product/mks-dlc32-max/ . So far, I’m happy with this board. I also received the CNC handwheel last week, but I haven’t tested it yet.
I’m not familiar with the 4-axis GRBL controller, but at least it doesn’t have a microSD card slot for offline operation. I don’t think there should be any problem using it to drive CL motors.
As for Y1/Y2 squaring, I don’t think standard GRBL firmware supports it. If that’s an important feature for you, you might want to consider FluidNC, grblHAL, or LinuxCNC instead.
The question is actually if the Y1 and Y2 are using seperate drivers, or share a single driver. Here is an useful information: https://github.com/gnea/grbl/releases
As far as I know, even the 4 Axis board has two Y drivers, they are still in parallel connection. Both those two boards. Based on the link above, grbl1.1H needs more limited switch, I couldn't find the additonal slot for two individual switchs for Y...
The MKS DLC32 Max board, can use two Y axis seperately: Use A axis as 2nd Y. In this case, A axis is gone. So X YY Z, or XYZA
If I’d had other options when I bought the 4-axis CNC controller, I wouldn’t have chosen this one. It doesn’t support firmware upgrades, and there’s no dedicated 0–10V output for controlling an AC spindle, so you have to use the PWM port instead.
