Ground Ballscrews
Do the Ground ballscrews actually meet C5 accuracy? Hard to imagine given the price, but I'm curious if anyone has any experience. Also curious if anyone has any experience with the double nuts for sale here. Just chasing the last little bit of backlash in a ball screw assembly.
Thanks,
Lewis
I bought a pair of rolled ball screws with double bearing nuts to use on my Z-axis, so I have no experience with C5 ball screws. During the first six months, I was happy with them because the tolerance was tight. However, after six months, I started to notice noise and a very small amount of backlash. I'm considering whether to replace the bearing balls or replace a new nut ..
Most of my machine work is on wood projects, and sometimes on aluminum parts.

Hi Lewis,
At least as far as I know, we don't have a device to verify the C5 class ourselves; those are the specs we received from the manufacturer. From the thread profile, you can see they are different from rolled ballscrews. I’ve heard from customers that they are better than rolled ones as long as a high-quality mount is used.
Personally, I only use my CNC for woodworking, so I use the cheaper ones and just replace them once the bearings die.
About 20% of our customers choose the double nuts, and we haven't had any negative feedback yet. The manufacturer told us their equipment produces accurate parts, but they can't use top-tier bearings at this price—meaning bearing tolerances might vary by batch.
Honestly, all our ballscrews are considered hobbyist/DIY grade, whether they are rolled or ground.
For your reference,
Thanks,
Frank
